When do I Need a Root Canal?

A root canal is a procedure in which Bergenfield dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter will remove debris and bacteria from an infected tooth. After the infection has been fully removed, Dr. Perlmutter will also seal the tooth with a dental crown to help guard against further damage.

If you are suffering from any of the symptoms of an infected tooth, please contact Dumont Cosmetic Dental or call 201-384-9292 today to schedule an endodontic examination.

Signs of Tooth Infection

You need a root canal when a tooth is infected to help avoid tooth extraction. Signs that a tooth may be infected include:

  • Persistent bad breath or unpleasant taste in the mouth
  • Pain while chewing
  • Red or swollen gums around a specific tooth
  • Excessive salivation
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Abscess

If you notice any of these symptoms you need to contact our Dumont dentist immediately to schedule an examination. When left untreated, tooth infection will result in tooth loss.

Not all tooth infections will show immediate symptoms. During your regularly scheduled dental hygiene visits, Dr. Perlmutter will check for signs of infection and discuss treatment options based on your specific needs.

To schedule an appointment with our experienced Bergenfield dentist, please contact us today. Dr. Perlmutter provides endodontic services to people living in Dumont, Bergenfield, and surrounding areas of New Jersey
