At Dumont Cosmetic Dental, experienced dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter is pleased to offer the safest and most effective forms of sedation dentistry available today. Trained by the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, Dr. Perlmutter has taken time to learn which types of sedation can best treat a wide range of dental phobias, anxieties, and discomforts. During your Dumont sedation dentistry consultation Dr. Perlmutter will carefully listen to your concerns, discuss all of your options, and help you choose the type of sedation best suited to meet your needs. Types of Sedation Dentistry Dr. Perlmutter offers two primary types of sedation:

  • Oral
  • Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as “laughing gas,” is administered just before your procedure. This option can help produce a short-term sense of euphoria and is very effective for some patients. Oral sedation is administered via pill in advance of your appointment. The level of sedation achieved with this method is higher than with nitrous oxide, making it better suited for more severe phobias and anxieties. Oral sedation produces a full sense of comfort and relaxation, but allows you to remain cognizant enough to respond to direction. If you live in Dumont or surrounding areas of New Jersey and would like to learn if sedation dentistry is right for you, please contact Dumont Cosmetic Dental to schedule your initial consultation today.
