What can Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign is designed to address:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Invisalign can be used to treat most cases of mild to moderate malocclusion. For severe malocclusion, additional services may be required before your treatment begins.

What is the minimum age for Invisalign?

There is neither an upper nor lower age limit for Invisalign treatment. However, Invisalign should only be offered to adults and teens who have lost all of their baby teeth and whose second molars are fully or near completely erupted.

It is important to remember that Invisalign aligners are removable and it is the responsibility of the patient to both use the aligners as directed and keep track of them when they are removed. Age can play a big role in this ability. The best age for Invisalign treatment is, therefore, the age at which a person can be responsible for wearing and keeping track of their aligners.

Who is a good Invisalign Candidate?

If you are in need of orthodontic treatment, you may be a good candidate for Invisalign. As mentioned above, there are certain considerations that will need to be made about tooth eruption, level of malocclusion, and willingness/ability to follow care and usage instructions.

To establish candidacy, Dr. Perlmutter will need to examine your teeth and gums, and discuss use and care of aligners, enabling him to determine if treatment would be effective for your smile.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment with Invisalign can be completed in as few as six months for some patients. Others may continue to benefit from treatment for 12 to 18 months. The average Invisalign treatment is completed within one year.

During the course of treatment, you will return to our office every four to six weeks for a new set of aligners. Each of these will gently move your teeth closer to their optimal position. If movement is too slow or if assistance is needed, we may add ridges or attachments to help the aligners grip and move teeth more effectively.

Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment?

It is likely that you will need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment to prevent teeth from shifting out of alignment. Retainers are typically worn only at night and, for patients used to wearing Invisalign aligners for 22 hours a day, should be easy and comfortable to use.
